Orientation for students

The KSLU’s Law School organized an Orientation Programme for U.G and P.G. Students on September 9-10, 2009. The Workshop was inaugurated By Shri C.U. Bellakki, Assistant Station Director, AIR, Dharwad and Dr. J.S. Patil, Vice-Chancellor, KSLU, was the President for the Workshop. Prof. P.W. Basarkar, H.O.D. Biochemistry, University of Agricultural Sciences Dharwad, Shri Umesh S. Shet, Advocate, Dilla University, Ethiopia, Prof. M.S. Venugopal, J.S.S. Law College Mysore, Shri G. Vidyasagar, Registrar, KSLU, Dr. S.V. Nadagoudar, Registrar (Evaluation), KSLU, Prof. Usha Murthy, KSLU, and Dr. C.S. Patil, Principal, University College of Law, Karnatak University, Dharwad, addressed the students during the sessions spread over two days. The students were also given an opportunity to exhibit their talent through skits and other cultural programmes.

National award winner - Smt.Umashri's visit to campus

Smt. Umashri, winner of National Award for best actress for her role in "Gulabi Talkies" (2009), visited the University on 25th September, 2009. She was felicitated by the Hon’ble Vice- Chancellor on the occasion for her achievement. Smt. Umashri interacted with the students of KSLU’s Law School, Hubli, and deeply appreciated the technology that was introduced in classroom teaching.

Teacher's day

On 5th September, 2009, the students of KSLU’s Law School, celebrated Teachers’ Day on campus. Prof. Abdul Kareem and Prof. Usha Murthy (Syndicate members of KSLU) were the Guests of Honour. The Guests marked the day by planting a sapling in the premises of the Law School.

Khadi Utsav

The KSLU, along with the Law School celebrated a “Khadi Utsav” on Gandhi Jayanti (October 2, 2009). Shri Neelakantha Ganachari, a freedom fighter, was invited to address the staff and students. The students celebrated the Utsav by singing Bhajans and Keertans as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and the Nation. It was a thrilling experience for the students to listen to a Nonagenarian freedom fighter on the Satyagraha movement and struggle for Indian freedom.

Elections

The KSLU’s Law School conducted an election for the posts of the office bearers of the Student Union on September 09, 2010. The election was conducted by secret ballot in which all the students participated by tendering their votes for electing the Office bearers. Mr. Prashant Sobarad was the Election Officer. Workshop on RTI

The Vice- Chancellor, Dr. J.S. Patil, along with Ms. Shruti Shurpali, Special Officer, KSLU, and two LL.M. students- Mr. Sarfaraz Hussain Kittur and Ms. Sumangala Chakalabbi, participated in the State- level Workshop on ‘Right to Information’ organized by the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority at Bangalore, on September 12, 2009. The Workshop was organized to sensitize the law faculty and to promote awareness among the citizens, particularly the students, about the RTI Act; the focus was on the issue of Judicial Accountability within the framework of the Right to Information Act, 2005. The Workshop was inaugurated by Hon’ble Justice D.V. Shylendra Kumar, Judge, High Court of Karnataka, with Dr. J.S. Patil, Vice- Chancellor, KSLU, Hubli, presiding over the occasion. Dr. Vijayakumar, National Law School of India University, Bangalore, Shri Y.G. Muralidharan, Consumer Activist, Bangalore, and Shri Tippeswamy, Commissioner, Karnataka State Information Commission, Bangalore, were the Speakers during various sessions.

The capsule workshop was replicated by KSLU at Hubli on October 3, 2009. The Workshop was inaugurated by Hon’ble Justice D.V. Shylendra Kumar, Dr. Vijayakumar was the Chief Guest and Dr. J.S. Patil, Vice- Chancellor, KSLU, was the President. Shri Ashok Halagali, Advocate, Belgaum and Dr. V. Vijayakumar were the speakers at the sessions. Mr. Sarfaraz Hussain Kittur, I Year, LL.M. student also addressed the gathering on the points to be borne in mind while training the common man on the RTI Act. The sessions were followed by a Panel Discussion, chaired by Dr. J.S. Patil.

The Workshop was replicated in Gulbarga in December, 2009, to create awareness of the utility of the RTI Act.

Workshop on Awareness on Anti-Ragging

The Workshop on RTI was clubbed with a session on Awareness on Anti-ragging keeping in mind the menace of ragging to which a fresher is subjected to, in recent years, in most educational institutions. Mr. Raghavendra Ouradkar, Commissioner of Police, Hubli- Dharwad and Mr. Satyanarayana, Advocate, Shimoga, were the speakers for the sessions. Two students of J.S.S. Law College, Mysore, presented a Bill on Anti-ragging at the Workshop. It was followed by a Panel Discussion chaired by Prof. G.R. Jagadeesh, Principal, C.B.R. National College of Law, Shimoga.

Sports

The Volley-ball team of KSLU’s Law School participated in the Volley-ball Tournament at Vaikunta Baliga College of Law, Udupi, on November 5-6, 2009, for selecting the members of the University Volley-ball Team. Four of the students among the team were selected as University Blues.

Three students of KSLU’s Law School were selected as University Blues, in the Badminton Tournament at R.V. Bidap Law College, Bidar, on November 13-14, 2009.

Legal aid and legal literacy programme

KSLU’s Law School students celebrated Legal Literacy Day on November 9, 2009, by organizing a Legal Literacy Camp in Kyarkoppa Village, near Dharwad. The students spoke on issues which are innate to rural areas such as Child Marriage, Crop Insurance, etc. and also enacted a Street Play on the same. The students answered a number of queries posed by the villagers. The initiative of the students for extending this helping hand was appreciated by the villagers.

Inauguration of student union and gymkhana

The Pro-Chancellor of KSLU and Minister for Law, Justice, Human Rights, Parliamentary Affairs and Urban Development, Shri S. Suresh Kumar, inaugurated the activities of the Student Union and Gymkhana of KSLU’s Law School on November 21, 2009, and administered the Oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected Office Bearers.

First Intra College Moot Court competition

On 29th November, 2009, the KSLU’s Law School organized the 1st Intra College Moot Court Competition to select a panel for representing the Law School at National and International Moot Court Competitions. The selection process was presided over by two external legal experts- Dr. C.S. Patil, Principal, University College of Law, Dharwad and Shri Basavaprabhu Hoskeri, Advocate, Dharwad. A panel of 30 students was selected and will represent the KSLUs Law School at various Moot Court Competitions in various Law Schools and Universities in India and abroad.

Inauguration of Law School's Moot Court society

The KSLU’s Law School’s Moot Court Society was inaugurated on December 12, 2009. The Moot Court Society was inaugurated by Dr. Kalyan C. Kankanala, Chief Information Officer, Brain League IP Services Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore. He unveiled the Moot Court Society Logo and also gave away the Rolling Trophy to Ms. Pranusha Kulkarni, winner of the 1st Intra College Moot Court Competition, which was conducted by KSLU’s Law School on November 29, 2009. Dr. J.S. Patil, Hon’ble Vice- Chancellor, Karnataka State Law University, Hubli, inaugurated the Moot Court Bulletin- “Moot Court Express”.

Inauguration of Law School's NSS Unit

The KSLU’s Law School inaugurated its NSS unit on December 14, 2009. Shri Chidanand Mansur, NSS co-ordinator, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, inaugurated the NSS unit.
